May/June 2024

With summer approaching, we’re excited to embrace this beautiful season and see what couples have up their sleeves. The weather can be unpredictable, so it’s always essential to devise a wet-weather plan to relax, knowing you’ve covered all your bases in the run-up to your wedding − especially for those opting for al fresco celebrations.

The seasonal availability of flowers offers an excellent choice for the time of year; think daffodils, tulips, hyacinth, crocus and lily of the valley. It’s an excellent opportunity to embrace a colourful and bold colour scheme using nature’s palette. Who doesn’t like an abundunce of flowers, from bouquets to gorgeous table arrangements and ceiling installations? Remember, you can move your florals throughout the day to ensure a picture-perfect backdrop for the vows, wedding breakfast and reception while staying on budget. Floral arches are my personal favourite!

Expect Pantone’s Colour of The Year, Peach Fuzz, to grace the wedding industry. The compassionate and nurturing soft peach shade conveying heartfelt kindness will surely become a huge movement we’re so excited to see. Another popular trend making a statement is champagne towers that add a touch of fun to weddings while serving guests a glass of bubbly.

If you’re at the start of your planning journey, you’ve come to the right place because we cover everything from fashion, beauty, cakes, venues and more. When searching for a property for your nuptials, I advise seeing if any of your shortlisted are hosting wedding shows, as spring is a popular time for these events. It allows you to look around the spaces, meet local suppliers, discuss your big day and ask plenty of questions. For those creeping closer to your special day, we have plenty of last-minute tips and tricks to ensure a stress-free wedding and the perfect finishing touches for that extra wow factor. So, no matter where you’re at with wedding planning, there’s something for everyone.

That’s all from me; happy planning!

Holme House

Spread across three exquisite Georgian townhouses, Home House hosts a variety of stunning event spaces for weddings in the heart of London.

Established in the 19th-century, the venue is named after the notorious Countess of Home and was designed as a sophisticated palace purely for enjoyment and entertainment. The historic building was meticulously restored and retains many original features, including ceiling-to-floor windows to allow for plenty of natural light. The private event spaces range in size to accommodate up to 180 guests for standing receptions.

The venue offers the most elegant private spaces with stunning Georgian-style rooms evoking a sense of grandeur and offering truly opulent backdrops to occasions.

The Front Parlour, Eating Room, Asylum Room and Octagon Room are all licensed for ceremonies, so couples can host both ceremonies and receptions in one glamorous location. With a dedicated wedding planner assigned to events, lovebirds can afford to relax and enjoy the journey. The Front Parlour and Eating Room are two private rooms joined together by beautiful double doors in an L-shape layout that accommodate 70 seated and 180 standing. These rooms are hired as one space in the day and evening. The smaller Front Parlour makes a fantastic reception room, while the Eating Room is ideal for lunches and dinners.

Located on the first floor of House 21, the Octagon Room is a truly eccentric and opulent space. Overlooking the courtyard garden and featuring a stunning 1820s Neo-classical ceiling, this opulent jewel-box of a room is the perfect space for intimate wedding ceremonies with 40 guests.

The Asylum Room is a beautiful private room on the ground floor overlooking the courtyard garden. It has a stunning fireplace, large wooden bookcases, and decorative ceilings and walls. It can accommodate 30 people seated or 40 standing.

Daring and decadent, The Vaults is a glamorous late-night bar and lounge available to hire until 5am. With a private entrance, this stunning event space consists of a sophisticated lounge featuring a DJ booth and two individual karaoke rooms with state-of-the-art sound systems. With a tortoiseshell feature bar and an architectural aquarium, the lux velvet textures, warm ambient lighting and rich tones provide the perfect backdrop to evening receptions with 50 people.

With access to one of London’s premier W1 garden squares, Home House expands its private events offering to include the wonderful Portman Square Garden adjacent to the grand house. It’s ideal for receptions with 300 people.

Each of the 23 bedrooms and suites has a special story to tell, with features that include stunning, original, Chinese Chi’en Lung hand-painted silk wallpaper and shimmering gold ceilings.

From daily delegate menus and celebratory wedding feasts to healthy breakfasts and elegant dinners, experienced chefs can create bespoke menus to complement events perfectly.

Date night! Olivia Gibson reviews Harrods contemporary Chinese restaurant Chai Wu

Hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Brompton Road, Chai Wu is a serene and modern Chinese restaurant on Harrods' fifth floor. This renowned establishment has caught my attention for quite some time, and I was delighted when the team extended an invitation for me to experience their exquisite signature dishes. After exploring the shoe paradise and venturing into the futuristic technology department filled with the latest essentials, we developed quite a hunger—window shopping can be quite exhausting, you see! Upon arrival at Chai Wu, we were greeted by the attentive team and ushered to our designated table in the elegant and cosy ambience.
